The main difference between a Genie boom lift and a Genie scissor lift lies in their movement and reach capabilities.
A boom lift (also called a cherry picker or aerial work platform) provides both vertical and horizontal reach, allowing operators to access hard-to-reach areas such as rooftops or elevated structures at odd angles. Genie offers articulating and telescopic boom lifts with reach heights exceeding 100 feet.
A scissor lift, by contrast, moves only vertically, offering a stable, spacious platform ideal for tasks that require elevation but not outreach, such as indoor maintenance, painting, or warehouse stocking.
Both lift types serve unique purposes depending on the jobsite’s height, space constraints, and access requirements.
