Tips to Fix Joystick Calibration Issues with Genie Aerial Lifts

Tips to Fix Joystick Calibration Issues with Genie Aerial Lifts

Genie is a trusted and reliable leading manufacturer of aerial lifts, so Genie AWPs are frequently in use across the globe. Routine inspections and maintenance are vital to keep aerial lifts operating safely and effectively. Fixing joystick calibration on models such as the S40, Z60 and S80 is one potential issue that may need to be resolved during service. To help address joystick calibration issues, the following tips highlight common fixes, as well as where to find quality aerial lift replacement parts, including joysticks and related components, that fit Genie lifts.

An Overview of How to Fix Joystick Calibration Issues

Disclaimer:  As Genie manuals including the Operator’s Manual and Service Manual for your specific machine emphasize, adhering to the provided instructions and safety rules is imperative. Otherwise, death and serious injury may occur. The hazards included in these manuals pose safety risks during maintenance and repair. Consequently, maintenance for each specific machine should only be performed by trained and qualified professionals who have the appropriate tools and lifting equipment, as well as a suitable workshop in which to complete the necessary services. Additionally, all applicable governmental regulations, safety rules and worksite regulations specified by the employer as well as manufacturer’s instructions and safety rules must be read, understood and followed prior to performing any maintenance.

Ongoing maintenance helps ensure that Genie lifts including articulating boom lifts, like the Z60, and telescopic boom lifts, such as the S40 and S80, perform as expected. Routine servicing and prompt repair also help ensure the safety of operators and worksites, as well as personnel and other nearby individuals, materials and structures. One common maintenance service needed for aerial lifts is joystick calibration.

To preview the more nuanced details provided in specific manuals for your equipment or by certified maintenance specialists, here are some steps that you may need to take in troubleshooting joystick calibration with Hall Effect:

  • First, access the key switch and turn it to platform. Make sure to pull the emergency stop out.
  • Now, go to platform and remove the size ¼-20 bolts from the platform box.
  • Then, use the emergency stop to power up the platform box.
  • At this point, you’ll disconnect the joystick, wait just a few seconds for the alarm to sound and then plug the joystick back in.
  • Without stepping on the footswitch, hold the controller full stroke in each direction for 5-7 seconds.
  • After the second stroke of each joystick, you should hear the alarm, the sound of which indicates calibration.
